Do not change anything without counsel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you rush to fix it now, you destroy evidence of what they induced you to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The silence on the line was painful.<\/p>\n<p>Then Adrian whispered, \u201cI put Ethan second.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the spreadsheet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou put him where they told you to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He didn&#39;t defend himself.<\/p>\n<p>That was new.<\/p>\n<p>An hour later, David found another attachment on Vanessa&#39;s USB.<\/p>\n<p>It was a draft communication intended for Adrian after the divorce became final.<\/p>\n<p>The author metadata listed Daniel Mercer.<\/p>\n<p>The message was written as if from Evelyn.<\/p>\n<p>It explained that Voss Meridian faced an immediate debt crisis.<\/p>\n<p>It recommended Adrian temporarily transfer voting control to a rescue vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>That vehicle was ultimately controlled by Evelyn.<\/p>\n<p>The trap was almost complete.<\/p>\n<p>Adrian would lose his marriage.<\/p>\n<p>His son.<\/p>\n<p>Much of his company.<\/p>\n<p>And still believe his mother had saved him.<\/p>\n<p>Helen leaned back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe planned everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVanessa betrayed her. Daniel betrayed her.
