don\u2019t want to keep measuring us against a number.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brent did not answer for several seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Then he said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo would I.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He laughed softly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes this mean I can borrow twenty bucks?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbsolutely not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He laughed harder.<\/p>\n<p>So did I.<\/p>\n<p>That joke would have been impossible once.<\/p>\n<p>Now it felt like release.<\/p>\n<p>We ended the call.<\/p>\n<p>I boarded my flight.<\/p>\n<p>Nine hours later, I landed in Cleveland.<\/p>\n<p>Mom had texted.<\/p>\n<p>Call when you\u2019re awake.<\/p>\n<p>She knew.<\/p>\n<p>Of course.<\/p>\n<p>I called the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrent told
