Lily.

Aunt Carol done. Two cousins tonight.

I smiled.

Not because she was being punished.

Because she was doing exactly what I had asked without turning it into a performance.

The following week, Rachel sent the first settlement draft.

Dad would dismiss the lawsuit with prejudice.

He would reimburse specified legal fees.

The educational obligation would be acknowledged.

Repayment terms would be negotiated separately between me, Mom, and Dad.

There would be no admission that Dad created or owned any portion of my company.

No continuing investment claim.

No right to business information.

No third-party information gathering.

No undisclosed investment in transactions involving me.

I read the contact provision twice.

Neither parent would contact my employees, business partners, lenders, contractors, advisers, tenants, or clients for information about me without my written consent.

It looked severe on paper.

Then I remembered Greg’s photographs.

Martin’s questions.

The title records.

Dad’s spreadsheets.

It was not severe.

It was specific.

Rachel called.

“Any changes?”

“One.”

“What?”

“Add family members.”

“To the information restriction?”

“Yes.”

She was quiet.

“Meaning they cannot use Lily or other relatives to obtain information.”

“Exactly.”

“I’ll add it.”

I looked at the draft again.

“Rachel.”

“Yes?”

“Does this look insane?”

“No.”

“You’re my lawyer.”

“Yes.”

“So your baseline for insane may be unusual.”

“That is also true.”

I smiled.

Then she said, “Boundaries often look excessive to people who benefited from their absence.”

I wrote that down.

Not for court.

For myself.

That evening, Lily sent another message.

Everyone I personally told has now been corrected.

Then a second.

One cousin apologized.
