There was a second service exit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The investigator swore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was under supervision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is she?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThomas?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStill missing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The family was moving again.<\/p>\n<p>Grandma\u2019s trap had captured Dad.<\/p>\n<p>But Patricia and Thomas remained loose.<\/p>\n<p>Martin looked at the list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Patricia accessed box eighteen, she could be trying to destroy correspondence tying her to the financial crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The investigator was already calling the Milwaukee bank.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at Grandpa\u2019s list.<\/p>\n<p>One other box had been accessed recently.<\/p>\n<p>Number 63.<\/p>\n<p>Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Date:<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho opened sixty-three?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The investigator zoomed in.<\/p>\n<p>The notation beside it was different.<\/p>\n<p>PERSONAL \u2014 C.H.<\/p>\n<p>My initials.<\/p>\n<p>Claire Harrington.<\/p>\n<p>I frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrandpa left a box for me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin nodded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooks like it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut somebody already opened it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Before I knew any of this.<\/p>\n<p>Before dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Before Dad\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bank supplied a preliminary access record within twenty minutes.<\/p>\n<p>An authorized proxy.<\/p>\n<p>Name:<\/p>\n<p>Peter Lang.<\/p>\n<p>I stared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeter?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He had been hospitalized.<\/p>\n<p>But yesterday, after regaining consciousness, he had apparently left the hospital briefly against medical advice.<\/p>\n<p>Then returned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy would Peter access my box?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eleanor called again.<\/p>\n<p>This time she sounded frightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClaire, where are you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Harrington Supply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI spoke to Peter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My heart tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t open box sixty-three for Margaret.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen for whom?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eleanor hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Thomas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThomas contacted Peter before the crash.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo weeks ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said box sixty-three contained proof Richard wasn\u2019t the only person who knew about Samuel\u2019s death before it happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhose proof?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is Peter now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Silence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEleanor?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went to the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The investigator looked sharply at the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMissing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoluntary?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he take something?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eleanor answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA sealed envelope from box sixty-three.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at Grandpa\u2019s notation again.<\/p>\n<p>PERSONAL \u2014 C.H.<\/p>\n<p>Something intended specifically for me.<\/p>\n<p>Peter had removed it.<\/p>\n<p>On Thomas\u2019s instruction.<\/p>\n<p>And now both men were gone.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/feeleverystory.online\/?p=14261\">Click here to continue reading: PART 18: Peter Took the Envelope Grandpa Left for Me, but His Reason for Trusting Thomas Exposed a Secret Eleanor Had Never Told Anyone<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The image on the investigator\u2019s tablet froze Dad halfway through the bank lobby.
