I will not pretend my choice was nobler because I disliked his.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was Grandma.<\/p>\n<p>No self-forgiveness disguised as explanation.<\/p>\n<p>Then her expression hardened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRichard is guilty of many things. But if you stop at Richard, you will lose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I leaned forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatricia?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grandma answered as if hearing me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatricia stole. Thomas stole. Leonard Vale built the machinery. Richard weaponized it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then she paused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut none of them owns the money now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grandma continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone consolidated the offshore accounts after Leonard died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The screen displayed a name.<\/p>\n<p>Mariner Trust.<\/p>\n<p>We had seen it.<\/p>\n<p>The account receiving monthly payments.<\/p>\n<p>Grandma said she had finally identified the trust\u2019s controlling beneficiary.<\/p>\n<p>Vanessa leaned closer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The video cut to a scanned document.<\/p>\n<p>Beneficiary:<\/p>\n<p>Margaret Elise Harrington.<\/p>\n<p>Grandma.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody spoke.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Grandma had control of millions.<\/p>\n<p>She continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, Claire. I took it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI needed Richard to believe his money was safe while I traced every person he paid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin whispered, \u201cShe hijacked the network.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grandma had not merely investigated Dad.<\/p>\n<p>She had seized the hidden accounts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere is the money now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The video continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That was all she said.<\/p>\n<p>Then:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Richard is in custody, he will offer you something.
