it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That phrase belonged to resentful former employees everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>But Ward had not built Holt Ridge.<\/p>\n<p>He worked there eighteen months.<\/p>\n<p>Unless, in his mind, creating the early financial structure gave him ownership.<\/p>\n<p>Richard believed Holt Ridge\u2019s first profit came from Lawson property.<\/p>\n<p>Ward believed Holt Ridge\u2019s systems came from him.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron wanted money.<\/p>\n<p>Merton wanted minerals.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone had invented a justification.<\/p>\n<p>And Brooke had given each of them access.<\/p>\n<p>I asked, \u201cDid Ward ever tell you what Richard planned after taking Henderson?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was quiet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everyone near me stopped moving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said Miranda would have to sell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSell what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he name a company?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brooke thought.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething Ridge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel and I looked at each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStone Ridge?
