me.<\/p>\n<p>At 1:27, federal agents searching my archived materials found the notebook.<\/p>\n<p>Page sixty-three.<\/p>\n<p>My handwriting.<\/p>\n<p>One line:<\/p>\n<p>Cole source may be S. Dalton \u2014 verify independently; Crane says unreliable.<\/p>\n<p>Edward had told me Samuel was unreliable.<\/p>\n<p>Then the lead disappeared.<\/p>\n<p>Beneath it, in different ink, I had written something I had forgotten completely:<\/p>\n<p>If Dalton is telling truth, Hale answers to someone inside Treasury.<\/p>\n<p>Chloe read the photograph twice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou wrote it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI suspected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s different?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho did you think was inside Treasury?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never identified anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But I had been closer than I remembered.<\/p>\n<p>Close enough for Edward Crane to worry.<\/p>\n<p>At 2:11, Elliot asked to speak again.<\/p>\n<p>This time he wanted immunity.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors refused.<\/p>\n<p>He lowered his demand.<\/p>\n<p>Protection and consideration.<\/p>\n<p>They listened.<\/p>\n<p>Elliot admitted his father had run interference for the financial network for years.<\/p>\n<p>He admitted Bayfield moved money.<\/p>\n<p>He admitted Victor inherited operational control after Robert Vane became ill.<\/p>\n<p>Then investigators asked about the collision that nearly killed Chloe.<\/p>\n<p>Elliot denied knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>They asked about Marcus.<\/p>\n<p>He laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d I asked Ortiz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElliot says Marcus was never important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chloe looked away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did he call him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ortiz hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA leash.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I understood before Chloe did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA leash on me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus had not been chosen because anyone respected him.<\/p>\n<p>He had been chosen because he could remain close to my daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Close to me.<\/p>\n<p>A paid observer hidden inside a family.<\/p>\n<p>Then Elliot said something worse.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Edward never instructed Marcus to marry Chloe.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus made that decision himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d Chloe asked.<\/p>\n<p>Ortiz answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Arden told him the payments would continue as long as he remained useful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The marriage had not begun as an assignment.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus had turned it into one.<\/p>\n<p>He had looked at Chloe, looked at the money, and decided he could have both.<\/p>\n<p>At 3:04, agents traced one final payment.<\/p>\n<p>It was made after Edward Crane died.<\/p>\n<p>Which meant someone else continued paying Marcus.<\/p>\n<p>The sender was a company called Redshore Holdings.<\/p>\n<p>Its controlling account had been accessed repeatedly by Victor Hale.<\/p>\n<p>And once\u2014only once\u2014by a second authorized user.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel Dalton.<\/p>\n<p>Chloe stared at the record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Samuel was hiding from Victor, why did they share an account?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at her.<\/p>\n<p>That was the right question.<\/p>\n<p>The story Sylvia had told us required Samuel and Victor to be enemies.<\/p>\n<p>The banking record suggested that at least once, after Samuel was supposedly dead, they were still connected.<\/p>\n<p>And the access date was only eighteen months ago.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/feeleverystory.online\/?p=13884\">Click here to continue reading: PART 11: Samuel Dalton Was Alive After His Funeral, and the First Message He Sent Chloe Forced Us to Question Every Ally<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At 1:26 in the morning, I went upstairs and woke my daughter.
