tightened.

“How?”

No one knew.

The leak again.

Or maybe Stephen had simply inferred.

“Where is Victor?” I asked.

“Black Mesa.”

“Still?”

“No.”

My chest tightened.

“What?”

“He left with Mason before federal agents arrived.”

“But Mason was found there.”

“Yes.”

“Then where did Victor go?”

“Unknown.”

“Does Mason know?”

“He says Victor was supposed to relocate the documents.”

The handwritten note.

The side letter.

The original engagement.

The evidence Stephen feared most was moving.

“Could Stephen find him?”

Vega did not answer immediately.

Then said, “Possibly.”

Richard stood.

“He will.”

“How?”

“Victor has family.”

“What family?”

“One daughter.”

My skin already making calls.

Richard looked sick.

“Stephen will know too.”

“Why?”

“Because Martin knew Victor had a daughter.”

Vega turned.

“And Martin is now in custody.”

“Which helps now.”

“Unless he told Stephen before.”

Silence.

My phone was returned
