court-appointed restructuring team.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary analysis.<\/p>\n<p>The clean operating business of Mercer Holdings was solvent.<\/p>\n<p>Strongly solvent.<\/p>\n<p>Once fraudulent Halcyon liabilities, manipulated vendor debt, and Southshore contamination were stripped away, the core company could survive.<\/p>\n<p>Smaller.<\/p>\n<p>Less leveraged.<\/p>\n<p>Independent.<\/p>\n<p>Employee equity could be expanded.<\/p>\n<p>Victim restitution could be funded partly from surrendered Halcyon assets.<\/p>\n<p>Clara handed me the screen.<\/p>\n<p>I read it twice.<\/p>\n<p>Mercer might live.<\/p>\n<p>Not my Mercer.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe that was the point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you think?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at
