redemption.<\/p>\n<p>Good.<\/p>\n<p>We needed that.<\/p>\n<p>Julian found another cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>MERCER SUCCESSION.<\/p>\n<p>Inside was my father\u2019s estate planning.<\/p>\n<p>Founder trust.<\/p>\n<p>Descendant clause.<\/p>\n<p>Kitchen Table Trust.<\/p>\n<p>Halcyon countermeasures.<\/p>\n<p>And one sealed document labeled CLARA AUTHORITY.<\/p>\n<p>I stopped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian withdrew his hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s addressed to her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen she opens it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clara said, \u201cOpen regulators, media and affected companies.<\/p>\n<p>Or destroy the disclosure keys.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was hers.<\/p>\n<p>My father had placed decades of evidence in the hands of a woman he barely knew.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>The answer was written in a short addendum.<\/p>\n<p>Liam will consider the consequences to the company.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel will consider the beneficiary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn whispered, \u201cRebecca.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian shook his head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr whoever owns Halcyon now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A printer suddenly came alive in the basement.<\/p>\n<p>Every officer reached for a weapon.<\/p>\n<p>Paper began feeding through.<\/p>\n<p>One page.<\/p>\n<p>Then another.<\/p>\n<p>A live message.<\/p>\n<p>HELLO, LIAM.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel \u201cRebecca.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I agreed.<\/p>\n<p>The next page:<\/p>\n<p>RELEASE THE ARCHIVE AND MERCER HOLDINGS COLLAPSES.<\/p>\n<p>Another:<\/p>\n<p>THOUSANDS LOSE JOBS.<\/p>\n<p>Another:<\/p>\n<p>PENSION FUNDS TAKE LOSSES.<\/p>\n<p>Another:<\/p>\n<p>INNOCENT FAMILIES PAY FOR OLD CRIMES.<\/p>\n<p>My jaw tightened.<\/p>\n<p>She was setting up the choice.<\/p>\n<p>The classic version.<\/p>\n<p>Truth versus stability.<\/p>\n<p>Then another page printed.<\/p>\n<p>DESTROY THE KEYS AND THE NETWORK SURVIVES.<\/p>\n<p>Another.<\/p>\n<p>CHOOSE.<\/p>\n<p>Clara\u2019s voice came steady through the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is not evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is telling us consequences without showing calculations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even now.<\/p>\n<p>Even with decades of corruption below our feet.<\/p>\n<p>Clara checked the numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat exactly collapses if the archive is released?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel turned toward the Halcyon files.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We began reading.<\/p>\n<p>Halcyon owned hidden positions across dozens of companies.<\/p>\n<p>If exposed, some would face regulatory investigations.<\/p>\n<p>But Mercer Holdings itself was not automatically destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca was us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The machinery had changed.<\/p>\n<p>The tactic had not.<\/p>\n<p>Separate Liam and Clara.<\/p>\n<p>Make each believe the other\u2019s choice is betrayal.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t decide apart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her expression softened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel turned pages didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMargaret did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dead woman trapped in the fire had apparently created the trust before her death.<\/p>\n<p>For Rebecca.<\/p>\n<p>And, inexplicably, for Martin\u2019s son.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel looked ill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy Adrian?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn sat down in Clara\u2019s room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Margaret was his mother too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No one spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stared at the phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMartin and Margaret had an affair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julian whispered, \u201cAdrian is Rebecca\u2019s half brother.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel stepped backward.<\/p>\n<p>That changed everything.<\/p>\n<p>Adrian and Rebecca were not merely heirs to opposing factions.<\/p>\n<p>They shared the same murdered mother.<\/p>\n<p>Martin was Adrian\u2019s father.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel raised Rebecca.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Harrington ordered Margaret\u2019s
