morning.

The rental property Mom left.

Two vehicles.

A small investment account.

And one more thing.

Dad read the page.

Then went completely still.

“What?”

I stepped closer.

His finger rested on an address.

Our address.

The family home.

I stared at it.

“That’s impossible.”

Dad whispered, “The house is in my name.”

Evelyn shook her head.

“Not anymore.”

My stomach dropped.

“When?”

“Three years ago.”

Dad looked toward Cynthia.

She stood beside her SUV with her attorney.

For the first time, I understood that the financial deception might not have stopped with my mother’s estate.

Cynthia had transferred the home we lived in into a company Dad did not know existed.

And according to the papers, she had done it using his name.

Dad looked at Evelyn.

“Can she sell it?”

“Possibly.”

The answer stunned him.

“Without me?”

“If these documents are valid, she controls the company.”

He turned toward Cynthia.

She saw his face.

Whatever she read there made her reach immediately for her attorney’s arm.

Dad did not move toward her.

He did something more frightening.

He took out his phone.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“Checking the house.”

“For what?”

“The deed.”

He opened the county property database.

Evelyn watched.

Dad typed the address.

The page loaded.

Owner:

BENNETT FAMILY HOLDINGS LLC.

He stared at the screen.

Then another detail appeared.

Pending transaction.

I leaned closer.

“What does that mean?”

Evelyn took the phone.

Her expression sharpened.

“The property is under contract.”

Dad’s face emptied.

“What?”

“To be sold?”

“Yes.”

“When?”

Evelyn scrolled.

“The closing date is Friday.”

Three days away.

Dad looked toward Cynthia.

She was already getting into her SUV.

He took one step forward.

Evelyn caught his arm.

“Do not.”

He stopped.

“She’s selling my house.”

“Then we handle it legally.”

“She’s selling it in three days.”

“I heard you.”

Brandon stood beside us, stunned.

Mason began crying inside the car.

Everything seemed to happen at once.

Dad called the title company.

Evelyn called her office.

Brandon opened the back door to comfort his son.

Cynthia’s SUV pulled away.

I watched it disappear through the gate.

The night she threw me out, I thought I had lost my room.

Now Dad might lose the entire house.

And if the sale closed before we stopped it, Cynthia would have converted years of hidden paperwork into something far harder to recover.

Cash.

Evelyn ended her call.

“We can seek an emergency order.”

“Today?” Dad asked.

“Today.”

“Can we stop the sale?”

“I think so.”

Think.

Not know.

Dad stared at the gate.

I looked at the property record again.

Friday.

Three days.

We had spent a week uncovering the past.

Now the past had created a deadline.

And for the first time since this began, Cynthia was no longer simply defending what she had already done.

She was still moving.

Click here to continue reading: PART 9: Three Days Before the House Could Be Sold, Our Lawyer Found the
