I will review.<\/p>\n<p>The next morning, I was in lab when Brandon called.<\/p>\n<p>I ignored it.<\/p>\n<p>He called again.<\/p>\n<p>Then a third time.<\/p>\n<p>I silenced my phone.<\/p>\n<p>After class, there were six messages.<\/p>\n<p>Please call me.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s about Mom.<\/p>\n<p>Maya seriously.<\/p>\n<p>I think she lied to me.<\/p>\n<p>Please.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t about the house.<\/p>\n<p>The final message came ten minutes later.<\/p>\n<p>I found something in her bag.<\/p>\n<p>I stood in the hallway outside the lab while students moved around me.<\/p>\n<p>For a moment, I considered deleting everything.<\/p>\n<p>Then I called.<\/p>\n<p>Brandon answered before the first ring finished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere are you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan you talk?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor five minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was breathing quickly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went back to Mom\u2019s friend\u2019s place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo get Mason\u2019s diaper bag.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe wasn\u2019t there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrandon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m getting there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I leaned against the wall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did you find?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer purse was open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you go through it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He paused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I closed my eyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did you find?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA key.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA key to what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why are you calling?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause it has a tag.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does the tag say?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He exhaled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDaniel\u2019s office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I went still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cabinet?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere are you now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you have the key?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not take it to Dad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCall Evelyn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lawyer?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause if Cynthia says you stole it, we need this handled correctly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brandon was silent.<\/p>\n<p>Then he whispered, \u201cMaya.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was something else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach sank.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA receipt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA storage unit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I straightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He gave me the facility name.<\/p>\n<p>I knew it.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca had mentioned it the day before.<\/p>\n<p>The same company that had absorbed records from my mother\u2019s old property management firm.<\/p>\n<p>My pulse jumped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat date is on the receipt?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast month.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not ten years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Not forgotten paperwork.<\/p>\n<p>Last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat unit number?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c214.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I wrote it on my hand.<\/p>\n<p>Brandon\u2019s voice was shaking now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy would Mom have a storage unit there?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the ink.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But for the first time, I suspected Cynthia had not merely hidden old records.<\/p>\n<p>She might have been actively maintaining control over them.<\/p>\n<p>And whatever was inside Unit 214 could tell us whether the past had been buried by accident\u2014or deliberately preserved where nobody thought to look.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/feeleverystory.online\/?p=13358\">Click here to continue reading: PART 7: Brandon Brought the Key to the Lawyer, but What We Found in Cynthia\u2019s Storage Unit Made Him Stop Defending Her<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We sat in Dad\u2019s car for the entire call.
