We.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The word surprised everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Dad continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI let things go because I didn\u2019t want conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSarah paid for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then Rachel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo did you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then toward the folder.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd now apparently so did I.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom whispered, \u201cDon\u2019t make this all my fault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad looked exhausted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat would be too easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The doorbell rang.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone froze.<\/p>\n<p>It was nearly midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Dad looked toward me.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel immediately reached for her phone.<\/p>\n<p>Mom whispered, \u201cThat might be Marcus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I moved toward the window.<\/p>\n<p>A car sat at the curb.<\/p>\n<p>Not Marcus\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>I recognized the woman on the porch before Dad opened the door.<\/p>\n<p>Elaine Porter.<\/p>\n<p>Mom stood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElaine?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine entered without waiting to be invited.<\/p>\n<p>She wore a long coat over what looked like pajamas and carried a canvas tote stuffed with papers.<\/p>\n<p>Her face was pale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been calling you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mom looked at her phone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI turned it off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine saw Rachel.<\/p>\n<p>Then me.<\/p>\n<p>Then Dad.<\/p>\n<p>Her expression changed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad folded his arms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood evening, Elaine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She swallowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRobert.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He pointed toward the signature-verification form.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife says you brought this to her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine closed her eyes briefly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou knew I didn\u2019t sign it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you submit it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dad waited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen who did?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine looked at Mom.<\/p>\n<p>Mom stared back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTell him,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n<p>Elaine looked toward Rachel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI came because something worse happened than that form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rachel\u2019s shoulders tightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy deed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine didn\u2019t answer immediately.<\/p>\n<p>That was enough.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel stepped forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you notarize a deed with my signature when I wasn\u2019t there?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine\u2019s eyes filled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI notarized it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat wasn\u2019t the question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine looked at Marcus\u2019s paperwork on the table.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rachel\u2019s face went still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, you weren\u2019t there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The room seemed to contract.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel whispered, \u201cThen whose signature did you notarize?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine began crying.<\/p>\n<p>Mom sat down.<\/p>\n<p>Dad didn\u2019t move.<\/p>\n<p>I waited.<\/p>\n<p>Elaine opened her tote.<\/p>\n<p>She took out a photocopy.<\/p>\n<p>Then another.<\/p>\n<p>Then an envelope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI kept copies because I was scared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rachel stared at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScared of what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elaine laid the papers on the table.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf what Marcus asked me to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/feeleverystory.online\/?p=12549\">Click here to continue reading: PART 10: Elaine Brought Copies She Had Hidden for a Year, and One Page Showed Marcus Had Planned the Fraud Before Mom Helped<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cI signed your name.\u201d Dad stared at her.
