channel.

They sent the recent Martin photo.

Ask Martin what Patrick promised him at 35.

Other messages.

“Who?”

Nina traced what she could.

VPN.

Disposable infrastructure.

But one recovery-email fragment remained.

Three letters visible.

ecr.

My pulse jumped.

“Elliot Crane?”

Ruiz called him back.

He denied it.

Nina checked his known addresses.

No match.

Then Morgan said quietly, “Ecr could be part of a name.”

We searched known participants.

Nothing.

Until Stephen looked at Eleanor Bell’s records.

One old email.

ecrane—

No.

Not Elliot.

An address belonging to:

Emily Crane Bell.

Rebecca’s maternal cousin.

Eleanor’s niece.

My stomach tightened.

“Who is Emily?”

Rebecca was called.

Her answer came slowly.

“Emily helped my mother with records after Thomas died.”

“Is she related to Elliot Crane?”

“No.”

Coincidence.

“Where is she now?”

Rebecca hesitated.

“She works in trust administration.”

My pulse quickened.

“Where?”

Rebecca named the company.

The same institution administering my grandfather’s trust.

Everything went silent.

A Bell relative had worked inside the trust administrator for years.

Someone with potential access to beneficiary timelines.

Someone who might have seen the early transition request.

Someone who might know Martin used credentials six days ago.

Ruiz contacted the institution immediately.

Emily Crane Bell was not a senior trustee.

But she worked in compliance.

And six days earlier, she had been the employee who flagged the suspicious access under Martin Webb’s credentials.

She had seen the login.

She had seen the beneficiary timeline.

She had seen Patrick’s name in related correspondence.

Then, instead of contacting me openly, she apparently entered Jason’s anonymous channel.

Another person deciding I needed truth indirectly.

Ruiz asked why.

Emily agreed to speak.

Her first sentence was:

Because I didn’t know which member of Jenna’s family I could trust.

I understood the logic.

I still hated it.

And when Ruiz asked whether Emily had helped Martin access the trust, she answered:

“No. I’m the reason he didn’t get farther.”

That shifted the entire meaning of the six-day breach.

Martin had not successfully obtained everything.

Emily had stopped him.

Then she added:

“But Martin wasn’t the person using his credentials.”

My stomach tightened.

“Who was?”

Emily said she had preserved the security-camera footage.

A person had appeared at a regional administrative office using Martin’s credentials and identification support.

Not Martin.

A woman.

Ruiz requested the image.

It arrived minutes later.

I recognized her immediately.

Alice.

Click here to continue reading: PART 30: Alice’s Visit
