expression changed completely.

“When?”

He turned away.

“Who submitted it?”

A pause.

Then he looked at Rebecca.

“Belltower.”

She stood.

“No.”

“What?” I asked.

Stephen ended the call.

“A formal adverse-claim notice was delivered to the trust administrator this morning.”

Rebecca shook her head.

“I didn’t authorize that.”

“Who signed?”

Stephen looked at the email.

“Rebecca Bell.”

Her face drained.

“That’s forged.”

The pattern again.

Another false signature.

Another document.

Another person manufactured on paper.

“What does the notice do?” I asked.

My father answered.

“It could freeze distribution.”

“For eighteen months.”

“Yes.”

My thirty-fifth birthday no longer represented automatic control.

Patrick’s carefully planned deadline had just vanished.

Unless that was exactly what he wanted now.

Stephen stared at the filing.

“This changes the economics.”

“How?”

“If the trust is frozen, whoever controls Jenna’s existing assets becomes more important.”

The apartment.

Credit.

Accounts.

Hale-WM Holdings.

Patrick’s fallback system.

He had already moved pieces outside the trust.

My phone buzzed one more time.

Unknown sender.

The trust was never the final target.

I stared.

Another message came.

It was collateral.

“For what?” Morgan whispered.

As if the sender had heard her, a final message arrived.

For the lawsuit Patrick plans to file in Jenna’s name.

<a
