The seal number on this document belongs to the renewal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stephen stared at me.<\/p>\n<p>I understood before he said it.<\/p>\n<p>The document was supposedly signed fourteen months ago.<\/p>\n<p>But the seal used to notarize it did not exist then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it was created later,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow much later?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel answered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPotentially within the last nine months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My pulse quickened.<\/p>\n<p>That meant the document had been backdated.<\/p>\n<p>Not merely misrepresented.<\/p>\n<p>Manufactured.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you,\u201d Stephen said.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel sighed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m withdrawing from representing Alice if she refuses to cooperate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProbably wise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The call ended.<\/p>\n<p>My father looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis helps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt proves the document is false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt strongly supports that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I should have felt relief.<\/p>\n<p>Instead the timeline bothered me.<\/p>\n<p>Nine months.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick created Hale-WM Holdings fourteen months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Then later created or completed the power of attorney.<\/p>\n<p>Something had happened in between.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happened nine months ago?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan opened her phone calendar.<\/p>\n<p>My father thought.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen reviewed the dates.<\/p>\n<p>Then I remembered.<\/p>\n<p>Nine months ago Patrick and I refinanced our apartment.<\/p>\n<p>There had been stacks of documents.<\/p>\n<p>Signatures everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>A notary.<\/p>\n<p>Not Alice.<\/p>\n<p>A mobile notary Patrick had arranged.<\/p>\n<p>My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI signed dozens of pages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stephen looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the refinance?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid Patrick retain copies?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I suddenly knew what Nina would find.<\/p>\n<p>More signature pages.<\/p>\n<p>More opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>More documents assembled from pieces I had knowingly signed in unrelated contexts.<\/p>\n<p>My phone buzzed again.<\/p>\n<p>Unknown sender.<\/p>\n<p>This message was only five words.<\/p>\n<p>Check who owns your apartment.<\/p>\n<p>I stared at it.<\/p>\n<p>Then at Stephen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I turned the screen toward him.<\/p>\n<p>His expression changed.<\/p>\n<p>He called his office immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPull the current title record for Jenna Whitmore\u2019s apartment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My father stood beside him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow long?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPublic record should be quick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It took seven minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Seven minutes during which I walked through the living room touching nothing.<\/p>\n<p>The sofa.<\/p>\n<p>The table.<\/p>\n<p>The wall we had painted ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>The apartment had been my largest financial purchase.<\/p>\n<p>My father helped with the down payment, but the mortgage was mine and Patrick\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>At least I thought it was.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen\u2019s email arrived.<\/p>\n<p>He opened the title record.<\/p>\n<p>Then he became completely still.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe apartment is no longer titled to you and Patrick personally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My mouth went dry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo who?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He turned the laptop.<\/p>\n<p>The ownership transfer had been recorded five months earlier.<\/p>\n<p>I had never seen it.<\/p>\n<p>Never approved it.<\/p>\n<p>Never been told.<\/p>\n<p>The new owner was Hale-WM Holdings.<\/p>\n<p>My home had already been moved into Patrick\u2019s company.<\/p>\n<p>And the transfer carried my signature.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/feeleverystory.online\/?p=11592\">Click here to continue reading: PART 9: Discovering My Home Had Been Transferred Without My Consent Forced Us to Trace the One Document Patrick Couldn\u2019t Afford Us to Find<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stephen printed the power of attorney twice.
