it.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel and Dad sat at a desk.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel held a page.<\/p>\n<p>Dad said:<\/p>\n<p>Evelyn did half the work for us.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel laughed.<\/p>\n<p>Then Daniel practiced Richard&#39;s signature using Grandma&#39;s copy as a model.<\/p>\n<p>There it was.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel again.<\/p>\n<p>The person who came to me first.<\/p>\n<p>The witness who pointed me toward truth.<\/p>\n<p>Also one of the architects of falsehood.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks called with the update late that night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDaniel&#39;s cooperation agreement is off the table in its current form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I understood.<\/p>\n<p>He had minimized too much.<\/p>\n<p>Hidden too much.<\/p>\n<p>Now evidence was outrunning his confession.<\/p>\n<p>Then she added, \u201cThere is something else from Connor&#39;s archive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My stomach tightened automatically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA video recorded the night before Evelyn&#39;s final confrontation with Patricia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My pulse stopped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrandma?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMom?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid and Daniel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They were discussing Evelyn.<\/p>\n<p>I felt cold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlay it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brooks hesitated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaya.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlay it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The video began.<\/p>\n<p>Dad stood near the Vance Residential office door.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel sat at a desk.<\/p>\n<p>Dad said:<\/p>\n<p>Patricia thinks Evelyn can help her leave.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel:<\/p>\n<p>Can she?<\/p>\n<p>Dad:<\/p>\n<p>Not after tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>My entire body went still.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel looked up.<\/p>\n<p>What does that mean?<\/p>\n<p>Dad smiled.<\/p>\n<p>It means Patricia is going to remember who she belongs to.<\/p>\n<p>The video ended.<\/p>\n<p>No explicit threat.<\/p>\n<p>No proof of violence.<\/p>\n<p>But enough to show Dad knew Mom planned to leave.<\/p>\n<p>Enough to show he expected that plan to fail.<\/p>\n<p>And enough to raise one terrifying question.<\/p>\n<p>What had Dad done before Mom arrived at Grandma&#39;s house
