did you say?”

“That Dad forgot a file.”

A lie.

Paul Sr. knew Marcus had opened Victor’s office.

He could have used the active session.

That shifted suspicion.

But still not proof.

Then one last log.

Remote administrative connection.

Source:

PM-4.

Time:

2:08 a.m.

Three minutes before the vehicle-correction authorization.

Paul Mercer Sr.

There.

Voss stared.

“He used PM-4 to enter Victor’s session.”

Marcus’s face went white.

“So Dad didn’t order it.”

“Not from this evidence.”

“Paul did.”

“Paul Sr. initiated the remote session.”

“Same thing.”

“No.”

Marcus looked at him.

Voss continued.

“We still don’t know whether Victor instructed him outside the system.”

Marcus swallowed.

Right.

Precision again.

The file contained no instruction from Victor.

Only Paul Sr. using Victor’s active credential to authorize a payment connected to sabotage.

That was enough for serious suspicion.

Not enough for total certainty.

I thought of Paul Jr.

His father had built the restitution doctrine.

Also may have facilitated Laura’s murder.

Justice and violence inside the same inheritance.

Paul Jr. needed to know.

We called counsel.

He joined.

When we told him, he did not speak for a long time.

Then:

“I knew he had done things.”

“How much?” Marcus asked.

“Not this.”

“Did you know about Laura?”

“No.”

“Did you know PM-4 started as Victor’s shadow access?”

“Yes.”

“Did your father ever say he used it to override EO-4?”

“Yes.”

“For what?”

“Anything he considered necessary.”

Marcus laughed bitterly.

“There’s your philosophy.”

Paul’s voice tightened.

“Do not compare me to him.”

“Why not?”

“Because I returned money.”

“And forged evidence.”

Silence.

“Because I helped victims.”

“And used private authority.”

Silence.

Marcus continued.

“Because you thought your objective made process optional.”

Paul did not answer.

He did not need to.

His father had thought similarly.

Maybe worse.

Finally Paul said, “If he killed Laura, disclose it.”

Marcus went still.

“All of it?”

“All of it.”

“Even your family?”

“Yes.”

Progress, maybe.

Or grief.

Then Paul added, “And if there are victims of my father’s actions, include them in tribunal claims.”

Marcus stared.

“That does not fix her.”

“No.”

Good answer.

Nothing fixed Laura.

That mattered.

We added LH-2 to the disclosure package.

Not public immediately.

Preserved for investigators.

Victim tribunal expanded.

Marcus stepped away from Horizon interests entirely.

He resigned his corporate role the same afternoon.

No severance negotiation.

No protective clause.

Just resignation and cooperation.

When he returned, he handed me his office badge.

I looked at it.

“What am I supposed to do with this?”

“Nothing.”

“Then why?”

He smiled faintly.

“Symbolism.”

“I thought you hated symbolism.”

“I’m changing.”

I handed it back.

“Keep it for investigators.”

He laughed.

Fair.

Then Voss found another file in Laura’s archive.

A note she had written to Marcus but never sent.

If they fire you someday, ask whether losing the job might be the first honest thing the company ever gives you.

Marcus read it.

Then looked at me.

My termination.

His sister’s termination.

Two attempts to push truth-tellers outside the blast radius.

One failed.

One saved me.

He said quietly, “That’s why I couldn’t let you stay.”

I nodded.

Not forgiveness.

Understanding.

Different.

Then Daniel’s emergency board counsel called.

New development.

Charles Renner had provided a location for Coleman’s attorney continuity copy.

The third master set.

If genuine, it could corroborate Victor’s ledger and File 9B independently.

“Where?” I asked.

Daniel answered.

“A private archive in Nevada.”

“And who has access?”

“Coleman’s attorney.”

“Name?”

Daniel hesitated.

Then:

“Brenda Foster.”

I stared.

Brenda.

HR.

The woman who called me at 7:14 that morning.

The woman who delivered my severance agreement.

The woman who appeared harmless enough to be procedural.

“Brenda is Coleman’s attorney?”

“Licensed attorney. Inactive corporate counsel status. Moved into HR twelve years ago.”

Richard swore.

Of course.

Another person hidden inside an ordinary role.

Then Daniel added:

“And according to Renner, Brenda drafted your termination documents three weeks before Marcus says the decision was finalized.”

My stomach tightened.

Three weeks.

Before the altered model.

Before Mercer forced timing.

Before Coleman supposedly ordered termination.

Brenda had prepared for my removal first.

Meaning someone else had instructed HR before the factions collided.

And Brenda might know exactly who.

Click here to continue reading: PART 33: Brenda Had Prepared My Termination Weeks Before Anyone Ordered It, and the Third Archive Finally Revealed Who Had Chosen Me as Titan’s Target

Marcus sat down without meaning to.
