me.

“Chloe.”

“No.”

I looked at Paul.

“You built your entire authority on making people choose between losing money and accepting your control.”

His expression hardened.

“I’m not doing it.”

“Then you walk away from PM-4.”

“Yes.”

“And let me keep it.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because the tribunal already suspended liquidation.”

“For now.”

“Yes.”

“You are willing to risk assets disappearing.”

“Some may.”

“Victims losing recovery.”

“Some might.”

He stared.

“That is irresponsible.”

“No.”

I leaned closer.

“It is refusing extortion.”

Silence.

Paul’s fingers remained on the token.

Then slowly lifted.

PM-4 sat between us.

No bargain.

No exchange.

No promise.

He had chosen.

I picked it up.

The object was lighter than I expected.

Years of hidden authority in a piece of hardware smaller than my thumb.

Voss exhaled.

Daniel looked toward the ceiling.

Richard closed his eyes.

Paul said, “You still need the master archive password.”

I looked at him.

“Where?”

He smiled faintly.

“Victor never trusted hardware alone.”

“Of course.”

“Password is divided across three custody letters.”

“Who has them?”

“Marcus.”

“One.”

“Evelyn.”

“Two.”

“And?”

Paul looked toward Daniel.

“Robert Sterling’s son.”

Daniel stared.

“My father never gave me a letter.”

Paul said, “He did.”

“When?”

“He put it in something you already have.”

Daniel went still.

“What?”

Paul looked at him.

“The only thing from Robert you kept after his death.”

Daniel’s face changed.

I knew before he said it.

His father’s watch.

He touched his wrist.

Old steel watch.

He wore it every day.

Inside it, apparently, was the last password fragment needed to open the master archive.

And if File 9B
