Two security officers responded to a secondary incident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInside help?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlmost certainly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid he take anything?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re checking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked toward the Operations case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKessler may have cloned Evelyn\u2019s token.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel went silent.<\/p>\n<p>Then:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChloe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe took Robert\u2019s beneficiary key.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everything stopped.<\/p>\n<p>Mom\u2019s key was not with me.<\/p>\n<p>Robert\u2019s was now with Kessler.<\/p>\n<p>One half of the trust override.<\/p>\n<p>Michael\u2019s expression told me he understood immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere would he go?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel said, \u201cWe traced a vehicle leaving the garage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDirection?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSouth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Westbridge was south.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the terminal entrance.<\/p>\n<p>The sirens we heard were still several blocks away.<\/p>\n<p>But another engine had appeared beneath them.<\/p>\n<p>Closer.<\/p>\n<p>Fast.<\/p>\n<p>Michael said, \u201cTurn off the lights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nobody moved.<\/p>\n<p>He shouted, \u201cNow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Voss hit the breaker.<\/p>\n<p>Darkness swallowed the loading bay.<\/p>\n<p>A vehicle entered the yard.<\/p>\n<p>Headlights swept across concrete.<\/p>\n<p>Stopped.<\/p>\n<p>Door opened.<\/p>\n<p>A man stepped out holding Robert Sterling\u2019s metal case.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Kessler.<\/p>\n<p>He raised both hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not armed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcus muttered, \u201cHe said that last time too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kessler walked into the darkened bay.<\/p>\n<p>His eyes adjusted.<\/p>\n<p>Then he saw Elena.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time since I met him, genuine emotion broke through his face.<\/p>\n<p>Not fear.<\/p>\n<p>Recognition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElena.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She stared at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou kept the promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kessler nodded.<\/p>\n<p>I looked between them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat promise?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elena answered without taking her eyes off him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo make sure Robert\u2019s key reached me if Michael ever tried to consolidate the network.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael stepped forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou planned this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elena shook her head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then she looked at me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour mother did.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/feeleverystory.online\/?p=10094\">Click here to continue reading: PART 22: My Mother\u2019s Final Contingency Required Both Families to Cooperate, but Kessler\u2019s Stolen Key Contained a Message Addressed Only to Me<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For several seconds, nobody moved.
