collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>Residence empty.<\/p>\n<p>Private aircraft grounded.<\/p>\n<p>No confirmed location.<\/p>\n<p>Another missing person.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe hiding.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe dead.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe negotiating.<\/p>\n<p>Kessler said, \u201cMichael will have him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Coleman is the last person alive who can identify every original participant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Michael wants that knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOr wants it buried.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My phone buzzed.<\/p>\n<p>Unknown number.<\/p>\n<p>This time, no cryptic instruction.<\/p>\n<p>A voice recording.<\/p>\n<p>I pressed play.<\/p>\n<p>A man spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Older.<\/p>\n<p>Calm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wondered how long it would take you to reach Robert\u2019s archive, Chloe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everyone in the room froze.<\/p>\n<p>The voice continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have your father\u2019s persistence. Unfortunately, you also have his timing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard whispered, \u201cSamuel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael.<\/p>\n<p>My father\u2019s brother.<\/p>\n<p>The recording continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not trust Kessler\u2019s interpretation of the files. He knows enough truth to construct convincing lies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kessler\u2019s face did not change.<\/p>\n<p>Michael said, \u201cIf Richard is with you, tell him I am sorry he had to learn this way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard looked furious.<\/p>\n<p>The voice continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJessica should stop searching for Elena. Her mother is alive, but finding her now would put her in danger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jessica covered her mouth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Daniel Sterling should ask himself why his father\u2019s private archive contains copies of documents only Martin Kessler could have supplied.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daniel looked at Kessler.<\/p>\n<p>Kessler closed his eyes briefly.<\/p>\n<p>Then Michael addressed me again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou want to know why I chose Titan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My pulse quickened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was never about eight hundred million dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everyone listened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was about who would reveal themselves when the money became large enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A pause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarcus revealed loyalty. Richard revealed conscience. Sterling revealed fear. Coleman revealed greed. Kessler revealed impatience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd you revealed exactly what your father said you would.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I stared at the speaker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou refused to leave a wrong number alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The recording ended with one sentence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you want Coleman alive, come to the old Westbridge terminal before midnight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard swore.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica looked at the clock.<\/p>\n<p>Three hours.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel said, \u201cIt is a trap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kessler said, \u201cHe expects that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard stepped closer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wants you specifically.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI noticed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He took my arm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are not going alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeither are you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michael had spent decades controlling people by predicting what they would do for family.<\/p>\n<p>The only way to stop playing his game was to make a choice he had not modeled.<\/p>\n<p>I looked around the archive.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>Richard.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica.<\/p>\n<p>Kessler.<\/p>\n<p>Four people Michael believed he understood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe invited me,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel frowned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we send someone else first.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kessler\u2019s eyes narrowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I thought of the one man Michael had spent thirty years manipulating but still apparently needed.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus Hale.<\/p>\n<p>And for the first time, I wondered whether Marcus had disappeared because Michael had called him too.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/feeleverystory.online\/?p=10091\">Click here to continue reading: PART 19: Marcus Had Already Gone to Meet Michael, and the Recording He Left Behind Proved My Firing Had Saved My Life<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Edward Bennett officially died thirty-one years ago.
